DUES
WHAT ARE CLUB DUES?
Club Dues are paid annually to both the New Jersey District of Key Club and Key Club International
District and International dues are $13.50 ($6.50 for District and $7.00 for International)
Clubs may add an additional amount to be retained by the club. Total dues amount must be in your Club Bylaws as approved by two-thirds vote of your members.
The Membership Update Center (MUC) is used to input and update membership information and will be open in September.
WHY SHOULD I PAY DUES?
A Key Club must pay dues in order to be in good standing with Key Club International, be eligible for awards, attend District Conference, and more.
Payment of dues to Key Club International is a requirement for a student to be considered a Key Club member.
District dues provide training for the District Board members, travel, services to clubs, and general expenses. These dues also support college scholarships to Key Clubbers, and reduces the cost of DECON.
International dues help create and distribute resources, such as promotional materials, posters, and the Key Club Magazine, provide membership cards and pins, help underwrite the cost of International Convention, and provide recognition awards.

HOW KEY CLUB BEGAN
The first Key Club formed in 1925 in Sacramento, California, with 11 members. Key Club was the idea of two Sacramento Kiwanis Club members who also were high school administrators.
They approached their Kiwanis club with the idea of starting a junior service club in the high school. It would resemble Kiwanis, have its own classifications based on school interests and hold luncheon meetings.

The club was comprised of the key boys in the school, willing to serve the school in any way possible and to create better school spirit. Thus, the club was dubbed Key Club. Soon, the club that started out as a vocational guidance program expanded to become a complete service organization for the whole school. It also offered a social aspect to balance its service activities.
Today, Key Club is the oldest and largest service program for high school students in the world.
